On January 2, 1986,
Midwest Rental Center opened its doors to the
public. At that time, we focused primarily on
renting tools and equipment to local homeowners and
small contractors. Our location on Highland Road
(M-59) provides customers with easy access to our
store and attracts new business from traffic
driving by.
As our business grew, we purchased larger pieces of construction equipment. We added storage room to the building, remodeled our showroom and expanded our repair shop. Midwest Rental Center had grown from a small local supplier to serve a broad range of customers all over the Oakland County area. After computerizing various store operations, we increased efficiency and expanded our market to include much of the Metropolitan Detroit, Tri-County area.
In 1991, Midwest Rental became Midwest Tool & Equipment Center, Inc. (MTEC). While maintaining a focus on serving rental customers, the new name allowed us to emphasize the sales and service aspects of our business. However, our primary focus remained on rentals.
In January of 1996 General Motors Truck & Bus Group’s Pontiac facility established a special wall on which they would display Certificates of Recognition issued to deserving vendors. This location was called the Supplier Wall of Fame. GM recognized MTEC for our “outstanding commitment to customer satisfaction and dedicated attitude toward continuous improvement as evidenced through the following: timely response to requests, on-time delivery, attention to detail, quality material, and commitment to understanding GM’s policies, procedures and paperwork requirements.” Two years later when the office was remodeled, MTEC had been the only vendor considered worthy to earn this recognition.
In June of 1997, we purchased an additional parcel of land adjacent to our M-59 property. More than doubling MTEC’s yard space, the new land allowed room for substantial expansion and growth.
In 1999, The American Rental Association (ARA) implemented an award program establishing industry standards for “Best Facility Design” and “Best Customer Service”. MTEC was honored to be selected out of ARA members world-wide to be the store that provided the “Best Customer Service” in the General Tool Category. In 2000, we were not eligible to receive the award again. However, in 2002, the ARA once again awarded us as the stored providing the “Best Customer Service”. This time, since we had moved into the heavier equipment market, the award was issued to us classified as part of the Construction and Industrial Category.
In 2001, we made a dramatic strategic move adding specific inside and outside sales divisions. Obtaining distributorships, dealerships, and joining the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED), MTEC has positioned itself for phenomenal expansion potential.

MTEC is fundamentally
an organization formed for the purpose of making a
profit. Unless we perform necessary services for
our community and customers, we will neither
achieve this goal nor grow as an organization.
Therefore, we continually make every effort to
treat our customers well. They are the most
important people with whom we do business. They
make it possible for us all to receive our
paychecks.
The customers we serve are many and varied. They may be homeowners, construction companies, manufacturing plants, government agencies, churches, and schools. All are looking for equipment supplies and services that will provide them with the easiest and most economical way of doing a job around the house or cutting costs on construction and building projects. We endeavor to courteously supply our customers with a variety, quantity, and quality of equipment that is delivered as scheduled and rented or sold at a competitive price.
Remember, MTEC is essentially in a service business, and good service will bring the customer back time and time again. MTEC's reputation of unquestionable integrity is our most valuable asset relative to customers, employees, suppliers and the community. Therefore, it is MTEC's policy to comply fully with all valid laws and regulations that govern its operations and to conduct its affairs in a manner keeping with the highest moral, legal and ethical standards.
